Year 10: Standard and Extended

Two courses, both leading to the IB Diploma. Extended covers everything in Standard and goes further and faster, mostly in algebra and functions.

Calculators. Graphing calculator optional. Every lesson works by hand first, with an optional With a GDC section to open.

Extended is the usual preparation for Analysis and Approaches; Standard prepares well for Applications and Interpretation. Which course a student takes is the school's decision, made from more than one piece of evidence. Each list shows the units in teaching order, with a dot in the colour of the unit's main strand.

The two courses

Standard Number sets and surds, generalizing with algebra and coordinate geometry, functions and quadratics, sets and probability, and solids and transformations.
  1. Number sets, surds and accuracy
  2. Generalizing and coordinate geometry
  3. Functions and quadratics
  4. Sets, Venn diagrams and probability
  5. Solids, similarity and transformations
Extended Everything in Standard, further and faster: rational indices and bounds, linear programming, transforming graphs, conditional probability, and a statistics unit with standard deviation.
  1. Number sets, surds, indices and bounds
  2. Generalizing, coordinate geometry and linear programming
  3. Functions, quadratics and transformations
  4. Sets, Venn diagrams and conditional probability
  5. Solids, similarity and transformations
  6. Statistics and the bell curve
